LESSON 4
Brief description about the class
In this Methodology
class, the professor has taught us two different methods in second or foreign
language teaching: the method used formerly but nowadays is still used “The
Grammar-Translation Method” and one more modern used now “The Direct Method”.
The professor has shown us all the characteristics of both methods, and he has
asked us to think what the advantages or disadvantages of each method are. In
small groups, we have done it and after a while, a member of the group has shared
those ideas with the rest.
To end the class, the professor
has shown us two videos with real examples of the old method “Grammar-Translation
Method” and “The Direct Method”.
What I've learnt
In this class, I have
learnt a lot about this two possible methods that depending on the circumstances,
I really know I’ll use it in my future like an English teacher.
Also, I have learnt a
lot of new words like: reflecting, targuet/mother language, grammar drills,
study by heart, accuracy...
My personal opinion
In my opinion, I think
it is very useful to know all these methods that we can use in our future. To
know their characteristics and to check so how is the best method for each moment
or for each type of pupils.
I had heard a bit
before of these methods, so I think it’s very useful that the professor teach
us them, but sometimes it’s very exhausted.
Also, with this group
methodology in which all student talk and participate it’s a good method to
improve my own pronunciation and to acquire new communication skills.
